Our Yearly Animal Art Awards at the Association of Animal Artists: A Month-Long Exhibition at The Station!
The Association of Animal Artists hosts two yearly physical exhibitions—one in Spring and another in Autumn. As the secretary of the AAA, I dedicate a lot of time to preparing wall plans, emailing entry forms, and delivering artwork from other members for the opening day.
It is a great honour to be part of this exhibition. Over the six years since my membership began, I have made many friends among the talented artists involved.
I am thrilled to share that my work has been accepted into this year's Autumn Exhibition. I also have exciting news about my newly award-winning piece "Afternoon Snooze."
The AAA's First Preview Night in Years!
Here are a few images from the preview night that took place last Thursday evening (25th September).
This was the first preview night the AAA has hosted in several years. It was an extra special event, especially with our guest judges in attendance. The renowned Anna-Louise Pickering, Stacey Moore, Lucy Pittaway, and gallery manager Sarah Iveson were all there. Plus, we had the wonderful folks from our Charity Partner, "Wild Welfare," in attendance! It made for a fantastic evening!
My partner, Steven Watson, and fellow artists Megan Elizabeth and Maureen Bailey were all present at the preview night of the Association of Animal Artists 2025.
The Awards for the Autumn Exhibition 2025
After helping to sign in and hang all the paintings, I returned to the hotel for a much-needed nap. I was battling a cold and almost didn't attend the preview night!
I am so glad I did attend, as I was able to experience the thrill of winning an award live at the opening night!
This year, I am incredibly proud (and still quite floored!) to announce that I have won the "Into the Wild" category (for any wild species) and the overall "Best In Show" for my piece "Afternoon Snooze," which is an original soft pastel of a sleepy hyena.
The awards were selected by a panel of judges from outside the AAA. They browsed all the work on display shortly before the preview. The judges included Anna-Louise Pickering, Yorkshire artists Stacey Moore and Lucy Pittaway, and gallery manager Sarah Iveson. It was incredibly exciting!
The "Into the Wild" category accounted for almost half of the entire exhibition. Winning "Best In Show" among such talent genuinely blew my mind. It was the last thing I expected to hear during the awards ceremony.
I want to send a HUGE thank you to the judges!
